BEACH CLEAN NOVEMBER 2020
We are looking at a much cleaner Nam Rin Beach in Banchang following the #GVGreenMatters beach clean on November 6th.
Here is a reflection of the day by Mahiro Y12. When we arrived at the Nam Rin Beach after school on November 6th, we first met the members from the Ban Change Cleanup group who taught the procedures and ways of using tools before starting a 2-hour afternoon cleaning session. We then went on and collected the litter in the beachside in the grass area. Although they were hidden in the grass, I was surprised to have found so many human-made materials thrown in the nature. Those included bin or plastic bottle lids (although they all very hard to spot on the photos as much as it was to actually find them in the ground!). Although it was tricky at the start, I instantly became familiar with using the tools and be able to quickly pick up the litter, even some very small ones. I also found it challenging that many litters thrown in the sand were very small and hard to catch, while those crabs were living in the sand without being able to clean their environment by themselves. That motivated me to try to catch smaller litter around the crabs to hopefully help it make a better place for them to live. By the time it got closer to the end of the cleaning session, my bag was filled with a range of litter, from plastic bottle lid to metal bottle lid and dead three branch. At the end of the day, we collected litter of more than 10 bags as a group - I was really proud of the team effort and that we were able to create a community of people that care and act for the local environment. Thank you to all who joined and helped us make the beach a safer place for wildlife and humans alike.
