Who We Are
Launched in 2020, the Green Council is a leading body at Green Valley in our new initiative to achieve the Green Schools Eco Award in 2021.
Our Green Council reps, made up of Y4-Y12 students, will be carrying out an environmental audit and organizing regular Eco-activities for all students to engage in. The aim of these ongoing activities and projects is to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage a sustainable ethos in our school and local community.

Going for Gold; International Eco-Schools Award
By working towards the International Eco-Schools Award we aim to empower pupils, raise environmental awareness, and improve the school environment. Our work seeks to engages the wider local community, and links to our school curriculum
The programme encourages pupils of all ages and abilities to work together to develop their knowledge and environmental awareness. Independent research into the Eco-Schools programme has found evidence of the positive impacts on pupils, including increased confidence, development of leaderships skills, improved pupil well-being and behaviour and greater motivation at school. As well as the pupil benefits, which have a hugely positive effect on the whole school community, GV will benefit from reducing our environmental impact. Eco-Schools consume less water and energy and produce less waste – in turn saving money that can be allocated elsewhere in the school.
A key element is the involvement of pupils in the whole process, including monitoring, action planning and decision making, leading to ownership and an increased sense of responsibility to the environment and the local area.

For this reason, we have set up GV Green Council, comprising students from Years 4-13. They have carried out a full school audit and formulated an action plan targeting specific areas to work on throughout 2021. Students across the Primary and Secondary Schools are working together to make Green Valley even greener. The new Green Matters website, swap shop and farmers market is administrated by Mahiro, Eva and Shantel, our Year 12 Eco reps. We have introduced a GV beach initiative, set up a composting project, grown produce in our gardens to support H2H, a named school charity. We have recycled, upcycled, crafted and sold. We have created an Eco-board in the school canteen detailing activities and evidencing our progress towards the International Schools Eco award.
We are thrilled to announce that in Term 1, the collective work of the Green Council and our Green Dream team of teachers (Mrs Gilbert, Ms Ferrier, Ms Thierry, Khun Noo, Ms Kinsella, Mr Shield, Ms Ginny and Mr Moxon) has resulted in us achieving the Schools Bronze level Eco Award.
